The new album with pianist Frank Dupree, the SWR Big Band and the SWR Symphony Orchestra was released on November 1st. Conducted by Dominik Beykirch, the album is dedicated to the virtuoso works of composer Nikolai Kapustin who impressively combines jazz with classical music. The album also features a world premiere: the “Toccata” Op. 8 has been recorded here in full length for the first time. Kapustin wrote the piece for solo piano and big band, bringing out the full range of the piano with breathtaking brilliance and fast passages.
Part of the album will be heard live for the first time at the New Year’s Eve concert on December 31st together with the SWR Symphony Orchestra.
